I have installed new Infinity speakers 6829CF 300W 2-way speakers, and after turning up the speakers in my car all valume closed down, I still have power over my stereo just no sound. The Problem you are having is probably, there is not enough power from the amplifier inside the radio. 17 Watt RMS is not so much the speakers probably need at least 40 watts RMS. Well, what could have happened is the speakers are trying to draw more power from the ECU and it overheating and shutting down part of the amplifier the radio. You need an amplifier for the speakers one, put out about 50 watts RMS per channel.
